(1) Hail, star of the sea, kind and ever-virgin Mother of God, happy gate of heaven! (2) Receiving that great "Ave" from the mouth of Gabriel, changing the name of Eve, establish us in peace. (3) Loosen the bonds of the guilty; bring light to the blind; drive away our evil, and pray for every good. (4) Show yourself a mother; let Him who was born for us and took your nature (lit., "your being") receive our prayers through you. (5) Singular virgin, meekest among all: make us meek and chaste, freed from our faults. (6) Show us pure life, prepare a safe way, so that we may rejoice forever, seeing Jesus. (7) Praise be to God the Father, glory to Christ Most High, (with) the Holy Spirit, one honor to the Three.
